2008 we are going to visit two of Montréal's Best Farmers' Markets and
enjoyed their unique ambiances. Our bus travelers can shop for cheeses,
fresh or frozen fish, freshly baked Montreal style bagels, all
kinds of bread and baked goods, fruit, fresh vegetables, flowers,
sausages, meats, wine, crafts. Don't forget to bring insulated
chests to put your perishables which can be stored in the bus
storage area!
We will spend 2 hours exploring
Le
Marché
de l' Ouest and the Atwater Market, over 2 hours on St Denis
Street
and
3 3/4 hours in Old Montréal exploring and shopping at the boutiques, partaking of the
many outdoor cafes, visiting historic sites, crafts shops, and watching buskers and artists at Jacque Cartier Square.
You have the
opportunity to dine and be entertained at
Cabaret du Roy an
18th century theme restaurant in the Old City. They will show us
how New France was 300 years ago. To shiver, laugh, sing and
feast along: a great team of musicians and historical characters

Mums at Le
Marché
de l' Ouest
|
Le
Marché
de l' Ouest is located in the west end of Montréal island. The
market attracts an abundance of shoppers who come to this local
market to buy baked goods, fresh fruits, fresh fish, and vegetables, a whole host of local and foreign
cheeses, sausages of a number of varieties, cheeses, meats, wines of
Québec
and France, freshly baked Montreal style bagels and produce grown in Québec and
elsewhere.

A Produce Stand at the
Atwater
Marché
The market
is hard to miss. Its famous brick tower has loomed above Montreal's
Saint-Henri district since 1931. The place offers something for every taste: delicious breads, pastries, pates and quiches from the Premiere Moisson bakery, assorted cheeses from cheese shops, succulent sausages and deli meats from William J. Walter, fresh fish, seafood and meats, not to mention the countless fruit,
flower and vegetable stands.
To find spices or condiments to enhance your meal, we visit the gourmet food shop, and for a good bottle of wine or Port,
found at the Societe des Alcools branch.

We let
you off on St-Denis and Duluth streets to wander for
two hours north for three blocks. You will
walk pass the
perennially popular bars and restaurants
and into the heart of
the Plateau Mont-Royal.
Bars and restaurants abound here and many feature outdoor areas for
eating, drinking and wasting time.
If you are looking to do a little
shopping, all
manner of boutiques, bistros and services are found
between
Mont-Royal Avenue and Duluth Street which mostly catering to
tourists and mid or upscale French Canadian clientele.
The bus is parked at the Marché
Mont-Royal which is a great place to do
a little food shopping. Located in the
public square at the entrance to the
Mont-Royal metro station, this market has
become a neighbourhood landmark and
forms an important part of Montreal's
trendy Plateau Mont-Royal district. With
its friendly merchants and vast
selection of fresh produce, plants,
flowers, sandwiches, homemade ice cream
and other natural products, the Marché
Mont-Royal is reminiscent of the old
world open-air markets in European
villages and cities. |

As you stroll along the serpentine cobbles
you can, stop at City Hall to admire its Second-Empire architecture, visit the archeological crypt under Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal's Museum of Archaeology and History,
shop in the many boutiques for gifts for others and yourself, dance,
sing, and watch the street performers on Place Jacques Cartier,
have your caricature drawn by a street artist and visit the Marché Bonsecours, for its magnificent tin-plated dome, and for its
world class designer boutiques. You can also find a great
place to have some liquid refreshment and a meal for supper on
one of many outdoor restaurants that overlook Place Jacques
Cartier.
From Old Montréal, all roads south lead to the Old Port and an
up-close-and-spectacular view of the St. Lawrence River.
As you stand on the shores of this mighty waterway, you'll see why the fur trading post established here by a group of French settlers in 1611 grew to become North America's largest commercial hub.
Today, impressive harbour-front facilities include a 2.5-kilometre-long recreational park along the river with promenades for just strolling about, a state-of-the-art Science Centre, with interactive exhibits, a group movie game and an IMAX® theatre, river cruises for romantic dinners, bouquinistes, vendors of rare books, and warm, friendly bars where you can relax over a drink
of wine or a latté with a clear view of the action. If you are
lucky you will be part of the voyagers who are in the harbour
with a cruise ship who are exploring the Old Port and Old
City just like you.

Cabaret du Roy

If we get enough people (20+)
- A large number of tables
have been reserved for this gastronomical
experience. We rediscover old table
customs of another period with a great team of musicians and
historical characters designed to create the New-France festive
atmosphere at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Nothing's
been left out: huge candelabras hang from the ceiling, a fireplace
is used to do some of the cooking right in the dining-room, antique
furniture is all over the place, and the staff is all dressed up in
ancient costumes. The entire setting is magnificent and will make
you travel through time. |
