Without the hassle of driving and finding a place to park

On Sunday September 18, 2011  we are going to visit the amazing Atwater Montréal's Best Farmers' Market and enjoy its unique ambiances. We will shop for cheeses, bake goods, fruit, fresh vegetables, flowers, sausages, meats, wine, beer, crafts, fish.... and bring insulated chests to put your perishables and treasures which
will be stored in the spacious bus storage area.

Then we will travel to the multitudes of boutiques and trendy cafes along St Denis street
where we will drop you off to walk four city blocks to shop, people watch, linger, enjoy lunch
and later we pick you up at
at the Marché Mont-Royal.

Montreal has a great Chinatown, where we will let you off to see and explore, perhaps to buying some
Chinese pastries and groceries, or just take in the ambiance of this Asian district .

We will spend spent about
3 + hours in Old Montréal exploring and shopping at the boutiques,
partaking of the many outdoor cafes, visiting historic sites,
crafts shops, and watching buskers and artists at Jacque Cartier Square.

Le Marché Atwater
The aisles are wide and when the bus comes to this market there will be baskets of tomatoes,
peppers, cheese, pizza's  cucumbers, strawberries, flowers, fish, oysters, lobsters and other seafood,
and long woven strings of home grown fresh garlic.

In the parking lot where we park the bus there is a large grocery store that sells
beer much less expensive than found in Ontario and also a Quebec Liquor store with
lots of varieties of wine not found in Ontairo.

We will be going to St Denis Street to shop in the boutiques, people watch, and eat lunch.

From house wares and home furnishings to high-end clothes and Canadian-made winter apparel,
Rue St. Denis in Montreal's Plateau neighborhood offers some serious shopping.

St. Denis Street offers fun bars and street cafes, fantastic restaurants and great shopping opportunities

Wander through Montreal's Famous Chinatown at the corner of St Laurent and La Gauchetière

This has been Montreal's Chinatown as long as most of us can remember. During the late 1950s and early 1960s,
speculators purchased old buildings and demolished them and vacant land became parking lots waiting
for an attractive offer. Revival of Montreal's Chinatown started in the 1980s with the installation of a pedestrian
mall on de la Gauchetière  and construction of the Catholic Community Centre and a senior citizens' home.
Chinese Montrealers live throughout the city and suburbs; Chinatown, centred
at de la Gauchetière and St-Laurent, remains the heart of the community
and has attracted a new generation of Asian developers.

Today, French, English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese are commonly heard in stores in Chinatown
as well as Chinese provincial dialects like Fu-chian and Chao-chun.
It's not unusual to see Canadian festivals celebrated in the area, with green fortune
cookies on St. Patrick's Day or pink bean curd hearts on Valentine's Day.

Old Montréal

Street in Old Montréal

As you stroll along the serpentine cobbles you can stop at City Hall to admire its Second-Empire architecture, visit the archeological crypt under Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal's Museum of Archaeology and History, shop in the many boutiques for gifts for others and yourself, dance, sing, and watch the street performers on Place Jacques Cartier, have your caricature drawn by a street artist and visit the Marché Bonsecours, for its magnificent tin-plated dome, and for its world class designer boutiques. You can also find a great place to have some liquid refreshment and a meal for supper on one of many outdoor restaurants that overlook Place Jacques Cartier.  Or take a horse draw carriage tour of the Old City.

From Old Montréal, all roads south lead to the Old Port and an up-close-and-spectacular view of the St. Lawrence River.

As you stand on the shores of this mighty waterway, you'll see why the fur trading post established here by a group of French settlers in 1611 grew to become North America's largest commercial hub.

Today, impressive harbour-front facilities include a 2.5-kilometre-long recreational park along the river with promenades for  just strolling about, a state-of-the-art Science Centre, with interactive exhibits, a group movie game and an IMAX® theatre, river cruises for romantic dinners, bouquinistes, vendors of rare books, and warm, friendly bars where you can relax over a drink of wine or a latté with a clear view of the action. If you are lucky you will be part of the voyagers who are in the harbour with a cruise ship who are exploring the Old Port and Old City just like you.
